Long story, do my best to keep it short. I graduated from university 5 years ago, with a not great degree result (due to dealing with a close family bereavement). That meant I had very little chance of getting my foot in the door at one of the big consultancies I wanted to work for-Accenture being my number 1 choice. So I took a junior role in a large blue chip brand, and have quickly worked my way up. My career path has not been tech related. I have an interview at Accenture on Friday. Any advice on how to overcome my non-tech skills and play on my 5 years of commercial and relationship building skills? Would it be an option to suggest I started as an analyst rather than as consultant as my IT skills are limited? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Don't think Accenture needs an IT background. All they need is somebody you can learn and think fast, communicate articulately and lead. It would help if you have a business process change or project management experience.I come from a similar backgound. I graduated 2 yrs ago and got a job with a blue chip in finance. My IT skills are limited as well, I have no programming/coding/configuration knowledge, only basic SAP training, system, design and implementaion experience, all around finance. And I got headhunted and got an offer from Accenture...today, starting on a consultant level. So, don't downplay your skills, try to find examples relevant to consulting (you proposed a change, implemented new process, resolved business issue..) and don't position yourself as an analyst. let them decide. And I got a question for you as well - why is Accenture number 1 for you?

Thanks for the advice. I have client relations skills within a blue chip financial information company, with our client base being mainly banks. I set up the client relations team with a small team in london. I designed the structure of the team, put in place process and have developed best practice. This team is now being rolled out across Europe, so I hope that indicates my capabilities. Accenture is number 1 for me, because it provides first class training with the opportunity to work with some of the best people in the industry. I feel I have achieved a lot off my own back, and hope that with the training and development offered at Accenture I can really contribute to the team.

Thanks. The opportunities they offer are indeed great, and the people I met there were exceptional. But I already miss my quiet 9-5 job, a familiar system, and a familiar environment. Just being a little silly:-)
