I would like to break into the consulting industry... My education is most likely compatible enough... However, what I have been doing for 14 years is running my own professional note business along with directing a state wide non profit movement that I founded... Everyone that knows me says I should be a consultant because everything about my natural personality matches that career perfectly... or, so everyone says. So, I would like to know if it is possible for me to break into this industry with no prior or simular experience. Are there firms that will train in guys like me with the natural consulting personality and career traits with a background of being a certified counselor, a business owner, and a state wide leader of non profit movements and inventions for education background ?

If you have been doing something for 14 years, you should have learned quite a bit about what it is you are doing. The consulting skills are mearly skills to enable you to tranfer that knowledge to whoever needs the skills. step one: promote yourself as knowledgable in the field of your choice. step two: read up on consulting ("the intelligent client" is a publication from one of the professional bodies and provides good material)step three: join a professional body such as the institute of management consultants to rub shoulders with other professionals and network, network and network.you are selling yourself!!!Good luckPS: if all else fails, try to find a job with one of the big consulting firms, but be warned, if you have been your own boss for some time, you might not fit into their straight jackets easily.
