I have been working for one of the Top 4 consultancy firms for the past 4 years doing Finance and performance management work. I am considering moving to the likes of Bain, Mercer etc..Does anyone know my chances of getting a job with these firms? Has anyone else done the same?

0% pal - stick to sums and 'perf.mgt' - bains etc won't touch you with a bargepole....

So can we assume that anyone who has 2-3 years of IT experience on the sales side or business analysis side do not have a chance of getting into strat consulting? what kind of profiles would the bains and mcks want??

Give it a go. You've got the same chance as anyone else. Ignore those that tell you you can't. They are the people who never did.

I agree with RGB, there are a number of people I know that have made the jump. Myself included. I made the jump from ACN to McK, having worked on a number of technical roles in my time at ACN, and today I'm doing pure strats work. Best of luck.
