Hi, I've been working as an Engineering Consultant since graduating with a Bachelors degree 5 years ago and since speaking to a friend of mine who works as a junior consultant I've realised that management Consultancy is a career that I think i'd enjoy and would be very good at. I realise that it may be difficult for me to get into the industry since I don't have a business background but I've got descent academic grades (1st class honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a merit for my Masters degree in Building Services Engineering) and as my job since graduating from my first degree has been to consult companies on Engineering issues, I feel I've gained alot of tranferrable skills that I think would equip me well for a career in management consultancy. Does anyone have any advice on the best route for someone from an Engineering background to get into consultancy? Basically I'm an Engineering Consultant, I advise people on electrical issues to do with buildings, so my current job involves being in client facing roles, manageing certain budgets, working in teams, attending meetings etc.. From speaking to my consultant friend I've realised there are actually alot of similarities between our jobs, she just focusses on giving business advice whereas I tend to give technical advice to clients. If anyone could give me some advice on recruiters that i could approach, consultancy companies to target based on my background and generally my chances of getting into the industry it would be much appreciated...
