Entry into Consulting best way?
09.08.8 00:00

Hi, i'm currently working for an Oil company as a PMO Support and have been in the project for 4 years. Due to downsizing in the company i'm looking for other options and thought of consulting as a good start. I'm a business studies grad (graduated in 1999) with varied experience in temping jobs. I am really keen to start my career in consulting but don't know how to best get my foot in the door.Have looked at various sites for roles but they require previous consulting experience. Can anyone help with best entry route into consulting? many thanks!

Try the specialist programme and project mgt consultancies. Depending how much of the O&G business you were exposed to, it may also be worth targeting specialist consultancies to the O&G industry. These are the organisations which are most likely to be able to use your experience. However, you need to make sure you're looking at roles at an appropriate level - for example, when you honestly appraise your own CV, how much of your experience has been at professional or managerial level? If the answer is "not much", you may be best off applying as a graduate where prior experience is not assumed.
