There's been a lot of talk on this site about the wonderfulness of PA as a firm. How does their reputation now compare to that of the traditional 'high prestige' firms such as McK/Bain/BCG? Or is a comparison impossible given their different structures and focus?

You're not comparing like with like. PA is primarily an operational consultancy, while the firms you list are strategy houses. Both types of companies occasionally make a foray into each others areas, but they are rarely successful. A more meaningful comparator would be to ask how PA racks up against IBM / Accenture / the Big 4 accounting firms

Hi Grad !! I don't know that PA is a place of "wonderfulness", but it is a decent employer, and a top quality professional consultancy. Our ownership structure means that staff quite literally have a stake in how the business runs, and unlike most of our competitors, PA consulting Group only consult. And nothing else. We don't try to cross sell a client a big outsourcing deal / ERP system / tax or audit advice, so it allows our consultants, to do what consultants should do: offer professional unbiased advice and implementation assistance to our clients. We've successfully built our reputation in the market on just that sort of professional independence and integrity. The net result is that business is booming, and our staff and clients sing our praises from the rooftops!! So it's by no means a wonderful place, but I've never worked for another consultancy with such a vibrancy and energy about it. Hope this explains why so many people are evangelical about PA.
