Sorry, this may be a stupid question. :) I am looking for a consulting job in the UK, but i'm not from the UK originally, so i dont have a local drivers license (though i do have licenses from my home country and from the US). Do you think i should get a UK license before a land a job? I mean, how do you guys move around when you are, for example, working with a client in the middle of nowhere, where there is no proper public transportation? Do you necessarily need to have a driving lisence to be able to work in such places?

I worked for a number of consultancies over the year (IBM, PwCC, PA, ACN, etc) and never had a car. The UK train network is reasonably OK, despite all the complaining we do about it. More information about driving in the UK on a foreign licence, or on transferring your licence to a UK one can be found here: http://www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers/drvingb.htm

Glad to be of assistance. Who are you looking at joining ? There are major differences between the consultancies in the UK. Have to admit that I'm one of the PA cheerleaders.

I'm looking to continue my career as a strategy consultant. I have 3 yrs of experience and an MBA. I've just started looking recently, so i'm not sure which company i'd prefer to join. I guess i'll just send my CV to all leading consultancy firms, including PA, of course :) Cheers!

I have been a Consultant with a Well-Known Firm for the last 5 years and did not own a car for the first 4 years, though I did have to travel a lot. It was never a problem, both from a logisitics side(getting trains, taxis, etc) or professional attitude side(from managers, etc). People understand that not everyone will have a car and as long as you make the effort(catching an early train to get office on time ,etc) , not having a license/car will not be a problem. Hope this helps.
