Hi all I've just been made redundant from an independent IT/managment consultancy in guildford - 6 of use all together, they are getting rid of the consultant grade and keeping only seniors and above. They lost sme pretty big clients/contracts. With a PhD but less than 3 years experience, the graduate intakes are telling me not to apply but, they won't look at me for experienced hire. Any thoughts on where to apply? - also what do companies think of redundancy on a CV? - thanks all

Do you necessarily have to mention the redundancy on your CV? Because afaik its not generally recommended to mention such things on your CV. You could mention it on your cover letter though

Redundancy on a CV isn't an issue for most recruiters. Sadly, it is just a fact of life these days. Three years experience should be enough to come in at a junior grade in most big firms. What kind of projects have you been doing? What is your PhD in? It sounds ridiculous, but you might want to play down your academics for some companies (strat firms like PhDs - Systems Integrators get a bit nervous about them)...

Hi RecuritGal, Thanks for replying, My PhD is in numericl Astrophyics, and I've been doing technology strategy, for the likes of VISA, AMEX, Police Technology Office, UK Passport office etc - both private and public sector. I can send you a copy if you'd like? Most recruitment agencies don't want to know and I've had no replies in 1 month from the big companies.I now what you mean about playing down the academics some companies just run a mile when you mention them - don't know why. Thanks.
