Hi, I'm after some advice. I'm considering making the switch from an internal consultancy role within a government department to a private sector firm. I'm pretty sure I have a range of skills, experience and qualifications that would make me attractive to potential employers, however I would be grateful for any advice from anyone who has made a similar move. From my experience of many years there is very little difference.Both have their red tape office politics. As long as you are confident inyor own skills it does not make the slightest difference.Regards

I have worked for a number of govt departments over the years, and with these so-called "internal consultancies" too. They won't be well regarded by any private sector consultancy worth their salt, as there's no real performance focus in them. However, you could perhaps market your self as being a good conduit for selling into your old clients. It'll be a difficult move to make: I think you'll find the culture shock quite a strain too.
