HaiDo firms like McK base their salaries based on your previous drawn salary or based on their pay scale.I m an experienced professional with 7 yrs of work exp and going to sit for the final interview for a position of a specialist. They initially job post was for Sing office however now they are checking with me if I would be keen on India offices...1) Can I still stick on to Sing..2) What will be defined as a good pay package in India & Sing for my backgroundThanks

For the generalist consultants, starting comp is more or less fixed within a certain band for each office at each level (varies per year, of course). So you may have to accept a (temporary) pay cut when you join...You can certainly counter the Singapore offer - but they might just not need anyone with your skills in India at the moment.Good luck!

Two things : I m being considered more for a specialist position rather than generalist as my expertise is in a specific area. Why will I be treated as entry level associate ??? & temporary pay cut... i dont really get that.. why will it be a temporary.. a pay cut is a pay cut. Also why will one take a top-line impact when he has a market value & he is being recruited based on his existing expertise. I agree that McK brand will add value and provide a lot of learning. I also understand the pay cut logic for freshers or others without expertisePlease advise Thanks ( the objective of the above questions are to help me understand the consulting industry better.. so plz do misunderstand)

Hmm, sorry, but can't give an educated opinion on specialist positions. For generalists, they start experienced hires at associate level to learn the "McK way" of doing things - but these people can progress through to the next levels very rapidly. Comp can increase pretty rapidly for generalists (annual % raises in double figures is pretty normal), so in the long run someone joining the Firm will often end up earning more than they would have in an industry position - that's what I meant by temporary.I presume that the same logic is applied for specialists. By the way, 7 Years experience is nothing unusual for an experienced hire associate - plenty of people who started with me were in their early thirties.Good luck!
