Has anyone attended the BT or IBM consulting selection day. I have both in the same week and would really appreciate any help on what to expect in the interviews? This is my last hope of maybe finding a grad job for this year so any advice u can offer would be great. Cheers

Hi Kris, I've had both in the past few months. I went to an IBM-BCS-BD day and also an IBM-BCS day, and more recently attended a BT C&SI day. Got through the BT one but not BCS-BD because I was 2 points short on a verbal test and not the BCS because I had a bad interview. ------------ The BT day is the easier of the two: the only assessed exercise was a short 30min competency and general aims interview, very informal and simple. The IBM day has a 4 minute (!) check of an IPATO test question, and verbal and numerical tests, all simple and easy. There's also a very short 15min interview again basically on past experiences and interests/aims for the future. Should have been easy but unfortunatley I had a bad interviewer who just didnt seem to take a liking to me and tied me up saying the wrong type of thing. I doubt this is representative though.------------- Like you I'm on my last applications for this (academic) year, so I wish you luck landing a job! Jon.

thanks Jon. Can i just probe u what sort of questions were asked at both BT and IBM BCS? Any tricky ones? Also for the IBM one, did u need to know about the lastest developments in IT etc.....plus is it true if u dont pass the tests u dont get to have the IBM interview on the day. I wish u all the best of luck with ur BT application. Keep me informed on how u get on ok. My email is vekaria3@yahoo.com.

Hi Kris,BT is vry much a case of just a competency based interview (first interview - second is still to come). Try to think about what experiences may be useful but I wouldnt pre-plan your answers too much. Questions were such as "From your experiences, how do you feel that you helped your team meet deadlines etc.". Teamwork and the usual (influencing, communicating, etc). As for IBM the case study and interview are before the IPATO test (which everyone sits together).I have no idea if I passed as they dont tell you. I did not pass the day overall, so your guess is as good as mine. Saying that I did not find it as hard as the online one (which I must have passed toreach the interview). Btw - case study is not something you can prepare for and is not in any way businessy. gd luck.

Hi Kris & othersOK I'm sitting on offers. Best piece of advice is to prepare like you have never prepared before! Download the entire website, buy lots of psychometric books, Pre guess questions (especially from your application form examples) and prepare multiple answers to them, practice basic maths, look on websites like doctorjob for advice on group work and interviews and as for case studies - of course you can prepare for them (tip visit other consultancy websites and notice the books you can buy on this website). Best of luck all.
