Hello there,As people on this forum usually give some very good advice I'll ask 2 questions here as well..I finished university and I'm absolutely determined to move into strategy consultancy. However, as I did not go to top-tier uni and do not have exceptional grades I was not able to make my way in just yet.[*]What kind of a job would you advice me to do during the first years? to acquire the skills I would need as a strategy consultant..[*]Is it a good idea to go into IT-consultancy (eg SAP consultant) first and then move to strategy consultancy?Many thanks for answers!Bart

It's very hard to move into strategy consultancies at a mid-Analyst level. What you'll need to do is apply at the post-MBA stage

1) Top 25 MBA--> associate/post MBA level entry2) Corporate Strategy/Corporate development at F500 // very unique firm -> be a star there -> apply to post MBA position when you have 4 years experience (no set rules on how much experience is needed)IT consulting and especially SAP consulting leads to more IT consulting and SAP consulting and provides you with no relevant skills, except for McK BTO perhaps. In general it closes the door towards strategy consulting unless you get an MBA or have super elite skills to offer. I've seen some IT consulting partners move to strategy consulting but it's rare.

Hi,Thanks for your reply grapplinghook & Chipzilla.1) Yes I will make sure I go for a good MBA, however, this is only for in about 4-5 years..2) yes finding my way to work in corporate strategy would be not so easy, though a very good option3)I did manage to secure an interview at CSC for a business consulting role (so not the technical part); Do you think this is a good start to move to strategy consulting later?or would you say working at CSC would diminish your chances to move into strategy as CSC is an IT services company?
