OK, one request for help from me.Can you shed some light on what EY's consulting business are like right now?- busy or not?- recruiting or not - & if so what skills are they short in?- types of clients (no specifics, just a feel for whether they're mainly private / public, central / local goverment, FTSE-100 or SME, etc)- morale & internal politics?- & finally, are they a "happy ship" (good place to work) or not?Just doing some research before possibly doing a spec application.Ta muchlyChogey :-)PS: please no drips about PA or anyone else!

I have a friend working in the F&PM bit, and it’s a bit of a rudderless ship at the moment. They brought in a load of guys from IBM about 4 or 5 years ago to run the practice, but they didn’t really work out. The top guy, who used to be the head of IBM’s finance management consultancy, ended up taking “early retirement”, and has been replaced by some dude from Capgemini. Their finance clients are almost all central government, and utilisation is very low. It doesn’t sound like a great place to work (a bit like PA in that regard) ;-)

Utter rubbish. Advisory is storming already this year. Public/private mix is consistent with the other big 4 (but obviously there are some big govt programmes) and IT Advisory has doubled in size and red hot. Check out the EY website for specs. I've been there a year and am loving it. I've heard this F&PM IBM 'friend of a friend' yarn a dozen times on this message board and its rubbish. new leader is ex Deloitte for a start. 'utilisation is very low' also rubbish. If you want to work in a tier 1 management consultancy with a good group of people then you could do a lot worse. The rest is up to you.

EY is tier 3 at best. Low utilisation, people at each other's necks 24/7, back-stabbing galore... but still better than Deloitte.

Deloitte are an IT implementation shop, with a bit of business analysis tacked on. EY is more audit/finance dominated than IT dominated (although its ambitions lie in moving to the Deloitee model).
