Does anyone know how easy/likely it is to get feedback after the firm has declined to interview you. I feel like the rejection letter I've got from BCG is quite personalised, and, annoyingly, vaguely wishily-washily positive. I would love to know what they really thought - even if it's not very nice, so was wondering if anyone has any experience in getting feedback.I figure I've got nothing to lose, even it annoys them a little bit - surely loads of people must write in and ask?

Strat firms are likely to receive 2,000+ applications for the 100-200 interview slots they are looking to fill, which in turn are the interviews they need to undertake to generate the ~10 hires they'll be looking to make in their London offices. With investment banking jobs looking unappealing / non-existent to graduates this year the application figure could easily be higher than this at some of the top strategy firms.I don't think it's realistic that you'd get personalised feedback about your application - as these firms have to have policies for what they can and cannot do for the 90%-95% of applicants who are left disappointed at not securing an interview. Personalised feedback for hundreds of candidates is just not commercially viable.The best I think you could hope for is a generic response to the question "what must-have criteria did the firm refuse to make exceptions about this year?" - and the answer to that may well tell you why you didn't get through.Firms do have different selection criteria though so you shouldn't lose heart that a rejection from one means you'll get rejected by all. When I was applying for strategy consulting graduate jobs I think I submitted something like a dozen applications. 1/3 I didn't make it to interview but then the others I did and from that pursued a career in strategy consulting for several years before setting up T-C.Good luckTony RestellTop-Consultant.com

B, the rejection I got from BCG today also sounded ridiculously personalised. Maybe they're just really good at making their rejections seem like that? On the other hand, the Oliver Wyman one was generic. Not a good day.

I know!..my BCG rejection sounded very personalised as well. Something about my amazing track record...however, due to the number of bla bla bla..oh well have O Wyman assessment on Monday but i ehar they r impossible...erm if BCG rejects you what are your chances with McK and Bain...oh Gosh!

how does it work - do they email all the people they want first, and then roll out the no's afterwards... or they respond either way as they go through them?ie. if you haven't heard after a certain point (especially if other people have started getting positive responses), does that mean t's probably a no?

I just got an invite to OW's assesment tests - so they must just be replying as they go through them, since other people on the forum have had yes's and no's...Any tips for the test? I have found GMAT practice tests in books ridiculously varied in the difficulty - although the official one was hard as f*ck! Anyone know of a good study guide?

Word for word.I heard that they stopped reading applications after a week because hiring targets are so far down this year that there was no point. Anything else coming in got put into a bucket for blanket rejection.

Yeah, I got the exact same wording. I think it would be better if they mae it an obviously generic rejection, so as not to give people false hope.It would be nice if they just blanket rejected people, but it surely can't be true - why would they have gone round the universities if that were the case? Surely the formula is, get as many people as possible to apply, so that they have the best chance of nabbing the best people, in amongst the chaff. Sounds like a bit of wishful thinking, nice as it would be.

Got a 'no' from McKinsey yesterday. Again with the cheerily worded cover letter, but this one's a bit more obviously generic: "We were impressed by your achievements; however, based on our screening criteria... we do not believe that you currently match our requirements in some areas."

also got a no from mckinsey! Ok i have only three left now. First BCG and now McK . Put so much effort into that app. Whats happening? I am quite surprised tbh that they are not even inviting me for first round interviews!

Statistically, it is not surprising. With around 150,000,000,000 applications for every 3 places, there will inevitably be many disappointed applicants.

Has anyone heard back from Bain, LEK, OC&C, Parthenon - or anyone else??? Any ideas when we should be hearing back? Would love to know how other people are getting on (hopefully well!) as I don't personally know anyone else applying!

It's not true that people are automatically rejected if they haven't heard back yet. For example with Bain, I received this email: "The closing date for applications is 10th November after which we will review all applications and notify you of our decision by 1st December."

I'm not sure about that. I have tests with McK, rejections from Oliver Wyman and OC&C but nothing from Bain yet. If you're rejected I'm sure you'll get an e mail, not just nothing.

Grad, your language is highly inappropriate for this forum and your information is at least partly false. McKinsey, for example, invites people to sit the PST exam on an ongoing basis - I got an invitation barely two days after submitting my application.

I've got an interview with Bain in December.I got rejected by BCG but have not heard back from McK either way?Some people are already doing tests with McK or have got rejected but I haven't heard anything - have they just not bothered to reply???

I got interviews at BCG and McK.. rejection at Bain. What is Bain looking for? What is your undergrad/internships?

Has anyone heard back from Parthenon, Monitor or LEK yet.I think Parthenon interviewed last Wednesday (that's what they told us at their presentation), so it's just annoying if they're not bothering to write to people to let them know. But LEK said in their email we should hear back by early December, so would be interested to know if any one has received rejections/invitations yet.

I interviewed with Bain today. Also passed McK first round... rejected from BCG, and didnt get past 1st round with Parthenon.
