Hi all; i've been reading this forum for a few months now and heard some pretty strong views about IBM BCS...I've just received an offer from them for the Grad scheme. Great news! Very hard to say no to any Grad consulting offer. However, I am starting to worry whether I am heading into a path of doom and gloom. Can anyone give an objective stance on BCS??

Hi,After being 4 years in another business unit within IBM I changed in february to BCS (in Switzerland). In my opinion it's a really nice place to work. You have lots of possible career options, a huge amount of different development activities, the possibility to soon take responsibility and a good corporate culture. In my opinion most of the negative sentiments come from former PwCC employees who still haven't overcame the fact that they had to change the company through a merger and for this some things around them have changed... If you ask those guys nobody can give you a clear and objective answer on why they feel bad about IBM... I think it's just a matter of time and the positive attitude of oneself....

I've had quite a lot of disgruntled IBMers sitting in front of me recently. Sounds like morale is fairly low - the PWC transition hasn't gone too well, and the company is experiencing wider problems, as you've probably seen in the press. Having said that, IBM are spending a lot of money in the media making sure that everyone knows the BCS are not affected by the recent changes. If I were you, I would take the chance - even if you only stick around for 2-3 years it will be good exp and will look great on your CV. Good luck...

Good initial training, but don't plan to stay around beyond 3 years. The culture is terrible: a real sweatshop attitude from the partners. Why not try one of the accountancy firms, or PA ?

.. take it.. IBM is offering one of the best education streams which is most important for grads... at least I got courses in the US in cooperation with HBS, LBS and IMD a couple of years ago. on the other side you will be very much specialized in whatever you choose because the organisation is so big.. also burocracy is an issue.. take care!

Never heard of ANYONE getting training in the US. Indeed, I know of very very few people who have received any training at all in BCS over the past 2 - 3 years. Go to a consultancy that value people, rather than IBM
