MBBB: McK, BCG, Bain, BoozMBB: McK, BCG, BainTop Tier: often synonymous with MBB (but people will differ)Second Tier: Could mean anything, from the Big 4 Accounting Firms to people like PA to strat firms like Marakon/LEK. Usually a bit meaningless unless it is clear in the post the type of consulting (Strat, IT etc) being talked about. Even then, people can argue ad infinitum about so-called 'tiers'.Blue-Chip - standard business term, look it up

What about 3rd tier? Bottom of the barrel consulting firms can be pleasant places to work if you don't mind losing a few £££ in order to buy a bit more time with your family!

...when you consider 'Big 4' means at least 8 companies, one of which doesn't even exist any more:http://www.big4.com/

Blue-chip is derived, and you may well not be shocked to hear this, from the expression 'blue-chip'. These were high stake chips commonly found at a Casino. It actually tends to mean FTSE 50-100 Corporates that are large in price terms.Sadly it is the sort of phrase that is much used in recruitment text, but much less well understood.
