Hi,I'm working at accenture in supply chain management, progressing fairly well as a C1 now. I'd like to take time out to do an MBA in a couple of years in order to work in investment banking, ideally sales and trading.I don't have any financial work experience though. Top 5 MBA's are often used to shift careers like this but I'm concerned I'd find it difficult to get internships since I'm a supply chain consultant! Can any recruiters offer any advice on this and other such carreer moves post-mba?Cheers

On the face of I would say forget it - entry to the front office is amongt the most coveted jobs in the world, and coming from scm consulting, MBA or not, you will find it more or less impossible. A better bet would be to circumvent the route most choose to take (i.e. to go into back or middle office and try to get noticed - rarely happens): try to get into a trading firm, preferably an interdealer brokerage (avoid prop trading firms) and chances are you could make the move into IB sales from there.

Hi,Thanks for the advice. It is sales I'm targetting specifically but out of curiosity, would M&A be a more feasible post-MBA career option as far more MBA's seem to end up there than on the trading floor.I'm going to try and hit up the big IDB's anyway but thinking worst case scenario here if I'm still in consulting 1 or 2 years down the line, how can I make this move. With difficulty by the looks of it.

I went to a 'top' business school and plenty of my class went into markets. Admittedly many more into IBD, but yes it is possible, you just have to demonstrate that you really want to do it.I know doctors, lawyers, consultants, scientists, even some people from non-profits pre-MBA that now work in markets
